NASCAR Births A Legend: The Origin Story Of ‘Let’s Go Brandon’

You’ve seen it on television, on Twitter, and even at sporting events. The chant “Let’s Go Brandon” is taking over the country. But what does it mean and where did it come from? And WHO IS BRANDON? Well, you can thank NASCAR fans for the chant that became legend. Let’s meet Brandon!  

‘Let’s Go Brandon’ Chant Started At NASCAR

The chant “Let’s Go Brandon” started by accident at a NASCAR Xfinity Series race.

While interviewing race winner Brandon Brown, NBC reporter Kelli Stavast misinterpreted (or whitewashed) chants of “F*ck Joe Biden” as “Let’s Go Brandon” (LGB for short).

So why would NASCAR fans even be chanting “F*ck Joe Biden”?

The “F*ck Joe Biden” chants took over college football games this fall and have become a meme and a popular slogan chanted at sporting events and political rallies.

But now, as a bit of a joke and to skirt around the vulgarity of the original chant, many are now saying LGB as a substitute. 

Due to the downtown in the economy, supply-chain issues, and general political unrest many are resorting to chanting against our current President.

Of course, this is nothing new. People chanting against the President is a foundation of our democracy. 

Let’s dig more into the Brandon phenomenon.

Who is Brandon? 

The Brandon from the NASCAR interview is Brandon Brown, a 28-year-old NASCAR driver.

Brown has raced in the minor-league Xfinity Series to moderate success driving the No.68 car for Brandonbuilt motorsports. 

Brandon became an overnight global sensation as LGB can be seen and be heard everywhere. He is the newest NASCAR legend. 

A Chant Turned Meme

People are saying it partly out of fun, partly out of frustration.  I haven’t chanted it yet, but it wouldn’t surprise me if I got caught up in the storm of “Let’s Go…” sometimes soon. 

But you are hearing it now all over the country, the internet, and the world.

After nearly two years living through a pandemic, people need to blow off some steam. People seem to be having fun with the trend, making memes and jokes, so I just hope no one takes it too seriously and kills the fun.
