Dominik Mysterio recently said in an interview that he has no interest in having a match with his father Rey. Of course, this is a big disappointment of many fans across the globe.
Even though fans would love to see it, Dominik Mysterio has no interest into facing his father Rey. Dominik explained exactly why he does not want a match with good old dad.
“Personally, I would not like to get in the ring with my dad. Just because I think there’s so much more that we can still do. But you know, what you’re seeing on TV is how we argue and how we fight and how we bump heads, man, that’s 100% us. He literally nitpicks freaking everything and sometimes, it gets to the point where no cameras are on us and I’m just like ‘I get it pops. I see what I’m doing here.’ It’s frustrating but at the same time I understand where he’s coming from as a dad trying to help me out so I think it’s important for me to realize that but I don’t know man I don’t see I don’t know if I see myself jumping in the ring and trading blows with him because at the end of the day, that’s pops, you know? We fight, we’re gonna fight, you know, that’s part of nature. But I don’t know if I’d go in there and trade blows with him.”
As Dominik hinted at during the interview, he and his father have been storyline arguing here and there. Obviously, this could be a hint the WWE is considering pitting father and son against each other.
Despite not having interest in facing his father, Dominik is excited to eventually inherit his father’s mask. However, he does not want to get it by facing his father.
“Since me going against him is out of the picture for me right now. I think owning and being handed that Rey Mysterio legacy with the mask and the name [is his goal.] You know, my uncle is Rey Misterio Sr. My dad is Rey Mysterio, in WCW is Rey Mysterio Jr., but once he came over to WWE was Rey Mysterio. So there is no Junior right now. Traditionally, you know as a son they would have given me the Rey Mysterio Jr since he’s Rey Mysterio. I think [it’s a] WrestleMania moment: [Rey Mysterio picks someone impossible for Dominik to beat.] Somehow, we make it work and he ends up passing the torch over to me with the mask and the name. That’s a dream for me.”
At the moment, it is unclear how long Rey Mysterio will continue wrestling. And despite wrestling for several decades, the wrestler is still in excellent condition.
For now, we are more than happy to see father and son together. But one day, Dominik is likely to take up the proverbial mantle (or wrestling mask) from his father.
It remains to be seen in which shape or form this will happen.
