Clint Eastwood Honored As ‘National Icon’ By Hollywood Stars Ahead Of His New Movie ‘Cry Macho’

Clint Eastwood’s latest movie Cry Macho is set to be released next week, and to mark the occasion, some A-list celebrities honored the star in a featurette released by Warner Bros.

Eastwood’s New Movie

In the upcoming Western drama, which is set in 1979, Eastwood plays former rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder Mike Milo, who who takes a job from an ex-boss to bring the man’s young son home from Mexico.

The unlikely duo then embark on a challenging journey as they are forced to take the backroads on their way to Texas. Along the way, Milo makes some some surprising connections and ultimately finds redemption.

Check out a trailer for Cry Macho below.

Country singer and actor Dwight Yoakman will also star in the movie. The film also introduces young actor Eduardo Minett.

Celebrities Praise Eastwood

“Clint Eastwood is the essence of the American hero, of all the things we think we all are, or would like to be,” producer Albert S. Ruddy said in the featurette, according to Fox News.

“We all recognize Clint as this national icon,” legendary director Steven Spielberg said, with A-list star Mel Gibson adding, “He managed to hit this nerve that the country kind of understands. He’s sort of in touch with the heartland.”

Actress Hilary Swank, who won an Oscar for Eastwood’s film Million Dollar Baby, praised Eastwood for his talent and success in Hollywood.

“He’s been doing it for so long that he’s come to a place where he just trusts his instincts,” she explained.

Actors and directors weigh in on Clint Eastwood’s legacy:

Eastwood recently opened up about his new movie, which he both directs and stars in.

“It’s about a man who has been through some hard times in his life and then unexpectedly another challenge is brought to the foreground,” Eastwood told Entertainment Weekly. “He would normally never do it but he is a man of his word. He follows through. And it starts his life over again.”

Eastwood’s Politics

Eastwood is also one of the only actors in Hollywood who has been unapologetic about his conservative views. In an August of 2016 speech, Eastwood appeared to express his plans to vote for future President Donald Trump.

“I’d have to go for Trump … you know, ’cause [Hillary Clinton’s] declared that she’s gonna follow in Obama’s footsteps,” he said at the time, according to The Hollywood Reporter

Last year, Eastwood told The Wall Street Journal that while he agrees with “certain things that Trump’s done,” he wished that the former president behaved “in a more genteel way, without tweeting and calling people names. I would personally like for him to not bring himself to that level.”

Eastwood certainly is a true Hollywood legend, and there will never be anyone else like him. We can’t wait to see his new movie next week!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
