Will Saturday Be The Final UFC Appearance For Clay Guida?

You hate to see it, but we are nearing the end for UFC legend Clay Guida.

The Hall of Famer will take on Mark Madsen this Saturday night in the co-main event live on ESPN2 and ESPN+.

Honestly, that should tell you all you need to know about Guida.

Once viewed as a legitimate contender to the UFC title, “The Carpenter” will be taking on a relative unknown in Madsen.

The soon-to-be 40-year-old is a former Strikeforce champion, having won the first-ever title. He has faced off against legends like Jim Miller, BJ Penn, Joe Lauzon and current UFC champion Charles Oliveira in recent years.

But the battles and wars have taken a toll on Guida.

He is 36-20 in his MMA career. Think about that for a moment. Fifty-six professional fights since turning pro in 2003.

Guida has shared the cage with those mentioned before along with Nate Diaz, Josh Thomson, Gilbert Melendez, Roger Huerta, Diego Sanchez, Rafael dos Anjos, Anthony Pettis, Benson Henderson and Kenny Florian.

You would be hard-pressed to find someone with the kind of fight resume of Guida.

But it is time.

As fight fans, nobody wants to see a legend get knocked out in brutal fashion. Or take a three-round, 15-minute beating.

Can Madsen do that? He is 10-0 including two wins in the UFC. A former national wrestling champion, Madsen claimed silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics and also fifth at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

His skills might fit perfectly with Guida, who has held his own as a wrestler, but they also could lead to a devastating finish in the career of a legend.
