Back Story: Bill Cosby To Be Released From Jail As Court Overturns His Sex Assault Conviction

Dickinson: ‘I’m Angry’

“I’m angry. I’m angry they let him out over a procedural. That’s basically all I have to say,” Dickinson told Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday. “I can’t get into the legalese about it. I can only speak from my heart and say that the statute of limitations is not fair. It’s just not fair.”

Dickinson went on to say that she felt like she had been “kicked in the stomach” when she learned from a friend that Cosby would be set free after serving only part of the three-to-ten year sentence for the sexual assault of Andrea Constand.

“This morning when I got up and rolled out of bed,” she said of the moment she heard the news. “My friend, Stephen Lenehan, gave me a telephone call and he told me, he said, ‘I have some bad news.’ And I was bracing for a hurricane or something, and he was like, ‘Cosby is out of prison.’…First of all, [I felt] so angry. So angry. Second, I felt like I was kicked in the stomach, in my abdomen, by some psychic blow.”

‘I Was Raped By Bill Cosby’

When asked what she’d tell the people who are celebrating Cosby’s freedom, Dickinson fired back, “I say to those people, you have not been raped by him.”

“I was raped by Bill Cosby,” she claimed. “And I know that it changed my life forever. That’s why my heart goes out to all the women who started #MeToo after I first came out on your show. I just think people are ignorant.”

Dickinson has claimed that she was drugged and raped by Cosby in 1982 in Lake Tahoe, New York after she met with him thinking he was going to give her career advice.

Cosby has denied the claims that she made, just as he’s denied the similar claims made against him by dozens of other women.

Cosby’s conviction was overturned because of an agreement he had with a prosecutor that should have prevented him from being charged in the case.

The court ruled, “He must be discharged, and any future prosecution on these particular charges must be barred.”

Cosby Celebrates,  Andrea Constand Devastated

Cosby’s attorney Brian Perry celebrated his release once he got out, saying,  “We’ve said from day one, we just didn’t think he was treated fairly. And that…the system has to be fair, and fortunately the Supreme Court agreed with us. He’s happy, his wife is happy. The system only works if it’s fair to all sides. That’s the bottom line.”

Here’s what Bill Cosby tweeted yesterday:

Andrea Constand has also released a statement about the situation, saying, “Today’s majority decision regarding Bill Cosby is not only disappointing but of concern in the that it may discourage those who seek justice for sexual assault in the criminal justice system from reporting or participating in the prosecution of the assailant or may force a victim to choose between filming either a criminal or civil action.”

District Attorney Kevin Steele said in a statement that Cosby “was found guilty by a jury and now goes free on a procedural issue that is irrelevant to the facts of the crime.”
