While appearing on “Watch What Happens Live” on Thursday, country music legend Dolly Parton revealed the surprising way that she can relate to Britney Spears’ and her battle for freedom.
Spears is currently fighting to be freed from a conservatorship that she has been in for 13 years that has given control of virtually her entire life and savings to her father Jamie.
When asked about Spears’ legal fight by host Andy Cohen, Parton replied, “Well, I try to not get involved in other people’s business. I think she is a wonderful artist and I think she’s a wonderful girl. And I only wish her the best.”
“I understand all those crazy things,” added the 75-year-old singer. “I went through a lot of that myself, in my early days… trying to get out on my own. So I understand where she’s coming from and how she feels.”
“I hope that all turns out the way that it should,” Parton concluded.
Yahoo News reported that Parton was referring to the lawsuit from her music partner Porter Wagoner that she had to fight against for six years back in the 1970s.
As Parton rose to fame, she was partnered with Wagoner, who was a well-known country singer and TV host at the time.
When Parton wanted to strike out on her own, he sued her for $3 million for breach of contract.
After a long six-year legal war, the pair settled out of court.

Spears, 39, is desperate to get out of her conservatorship, saying in court last month that “this conservatorship has allowed my dad to ruin my life.”
“I would like to charge my father with conservatorship abuse,” she said as she broke down in tears while testifying, according to People Magazine. “I want to press charges against my father today. I want an investigation into my dad.”
“The main reason why I’m here is I want to end the conservatorship without having to be evaluated,” she later added. “I shouldn’t be in a conservatorship if I can work and provide for myself and pay other people. It makes no sense. The laws need to change. I’ve worked since I was 17 years old.”

Hopefully Spears can find some comfort in the fact that a legend like Parton can relate to what she’s going through.
Good for Parton for throwing her support behind Spears, right when she needs it most!
