Pat McAfee participated in some interesting storylines in NXT and then called up to the main roster. Now he’s working as a SmackDown commentator, weekly with Michael Cole. Are his days done with the black and gold brand?
Dave Meltzer recently chimed in on Pat McAfee during an edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. He was once a part of the Kings of NXT stable but now is a main roster announcer.
After Danny Burch’s injury, he and Oney Lorcan relinquished their NXT Tag Team Championships. Interestingly enough, Pat left and never returned.
It’s interesting to note that the faction didn’t fall apart altogether. After all, Lorcan and Pete Dunne just teamed up on NXT this week.
According to Meltzer, McAfee’s time with the black and gold brand is probably over. Dave stated he believes that Pat is not coming back to NXT.
Pat is still part of the WWE, just not on NXT. Rather, he’s on the main roster and as a commentator.
There’s always a chance he wrestles on SmackDown. Especially if WWE officials see any of his previous stints from NXT.
Speaking of WWE’s “developmental” brand, someone’s in line for a big push! Who could it be?
Dave Meltzer also chatted about the NXT landscape. He noted that Johnny Gargano might be in line for an NXT Championship match.
He recently (and quietly) turned face with The Way. Meltzer had a few things to say about this transformation.
Dave noted that as Johnny is now a babyface, he’ll likely hit the main event soon. He could even main event The Great American Bash pay-per-view (PPV).
Meltzer went on to say that if NXT has a Championship bout at the event, Gargano could be the challenger. After all, Johnny is the only one they are promoting currently to battle Karrion Kross.
It’s interesting to note that Kross was also teasing a feud with Samoa Joe, recently. While Joe hasn’t been cleared to wrestle, perhaps this is wishful thinking on NXT’s part or something to build-up down the line.
There certainly seems to be momentum behind Johnny Gargano. He would give Karrion a run for his money if a match was booked for The Bash.
With that said, there’s also buzz around something else. Could Karrion Kross be making his way to the main roster, too?
He’s already wrestled on Main Event. Plus, reports have surfaced in the past that Vince McMahon seems quite high on Kross.
If this is the case, there’s a good chance that Karrion could drop his NXT Championship at The Bash. Johnny would be a great superstar to pass the title on to.
After all, Gargano has already held the NXT Championship. Plus, he’s been the North American champ (three times) and held the NXT Tag Titles.
Regardless, fans of Johnny need to brace themselves for a spotlight on their favorite superstar. Perhaps even another title run.
