We all have family drama, even the Irwins. Unfortunately, the drama between Bindi and her grandfather Bob Irwin was splashed on social media on Father’s Day. The experience has reportedly left the 82-year-old great grandfather “devastated to his core.”
Steve Irwin likely wouldn’t be pleased to hear this. He was close with his father.
Close enough to name his son Robert after the family patriarch. But, something obviously went wrong along the way.
After receiving pushback for her questionably timed comments, Bindi has announced she is taking a break from social media.
Bob Irwin Founded Australia Zoo
Bob Irwin founded Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park which now is known as Australia Zoo.
He instilled a love of wildlife in Steve that carried down to his children and is still visible today at Australia Zoo.

But, Bindi shares a different opinion.
She claims that her father’s beloved dad hasn’t wanted anything to do with her since she was a child.
Now, he ignores them all even though they financially support him and even built him a house.
Bindi shared the Father’s Day message below honoring her father, husband Chandler, and her father-in-law.
She thanked them all for their encouragement, love and devotion to their families.
In the comments, someone asked why she didn’t mention her grandfather Bob Irwin. Rather than just ignoring the question, she stirred the pot by responding.
Bindi Cites Abuse From Grandfather
“Unfortunately my grandfather Bob has shown no interest in spending time with me or my family,” Bindi wrote. “Publicly he continues to claim that he wants to spend time with us while privately my entire life has been psychological abuse from him.”
“From the time I was a little girl he has ignored me,” the new mother continued. “Preferring to spend time doing anything else rather than being with me. He has never said a single kind word to me personally. It breaks my heart but it is not healthy to engage in an abusive relationship.”
“He has returned gifts I’ve sent him after he opened them, he has ignored my correspondence and from the time I was a little girl he has ignored me, preferring to spend time doing anything else rather than being with me,” Bindi shared.

Teri Irwin Tweets Support While Media Criticizes Bindi
Teri Irwin appeared to be supporting her daughter’s claims. She tweeted a graphic that reads, “Avoiding certain people to protect your mental health is not a weakness… it’s wisdom.”

Meanwhile, Bindi is taking a beating in the media for her ill-timed announcement attacking her elderly grandfather on Father’s Day.

Bob Irwin Is “Devastated To His Core”
Bob Irwin has retired from public life citing his health and age. Amanda French, who wrote his biography, commented on his behalf.
She describes him as being “devastated to his core” after reading about Bindi’s comments which are dominating headlines in Australia.
“He is nothing but kind. To write that there is psychological abuse from the kindest, most beautiful soul I have ever met, is heartbreaking,” French said.
“Unbeknownst to you, and what you know, he is suffering deeply for the loss of his family… He has done all he knows how to do and that is bury his head in the sand because that’s how he copes,” French continued in her statement to Bindi.

“He’s not someone who is out there about reaching out and communicating, he’s like your Dad was. An introvert and not someone who can navigate people well,” Bob’s friend reports. “He loves your Dad, and you guys more than you know. This should be a private matter not written about on Facebook.”
Bindi Retreats From Social Media
Bindi obviously heard the message and announced she is taking a social media break for a month. Citing motherhood and the need to take care of her mental health, she is stepping back from platforms like Instagram.

Hopefully she takes the month to reconnect with her grandfather.
Sometimes older people have trouble expressing their feelings.
Hopefully Amanda French’s comments to Bindi will help her understand that her grandfather does love her.
If there is anything good to come from this very painful Father’s Day message, perhaps that is it.
