Monopoly Community Chest Next In Line For ‘Woke’ Update After Hasbro Repackages Mr. Potato Head

After repackaging Mr. Potato Head, Hasbro is eyeing up another change with a long-standing family favorite: Monopoly. The classic board game that has been played by Americans for generations is getting a 2021 style reboot. Hasbro is even letting the public vote on what’s appropriate content for a Monopoly Community Chest card.

Monopoly has really has stood the test of time. But, not many classics can hold up to the strict demands of today’s new woke society.

So, the longstanding board game’s Community Chest is getting a refresh that Hasbro believes will sit better with today’s more sensitive players than the legacy cards which take a more classic approach to culture and capitalism.

The change to this iconic family board game was announced less than a month after Mr. Potato Head was repackaged.

Monopoly Community Chest Cards Go Woke

All 16 of the game’s Community Chest cards will be updated for today’s world.

Soon, the shelves of Target and Walmart will no longer hold Monopoly games with cards about tax refunds, bank errors, and beauty contests.

Instead, the new Community Chest cards will promote community service and social awareness.

It is not yet known what the exact content of these new Community Cards will be. Hasbro is seeking input on the new cards.

There will likely be rewards given for activities, such as helping an elderly neighbor or adopting a pet.

Hasbro will allow the public to have a say by voting on what the content of its future cards should be.

“Since Monopoly became a household name more than 85 years ago, the world has changed and embraced a new sense of community — particularly after the unprecedented year of 2020,” Hasbro Marketing Director Anne Leonhardi said.

“With community being more important than ever before, this year is the perfect time to give fans across the country the chance to show what community means to them through voting on the new set of Community Chest cards,” she continued in a statement.

Will Players Be Penalized For Selfish Acts?

It is also foreseeable that Monopoly players may be penalized for selfish acts.

Perhaps failing to recycle could get you tossed in jail. That card might appease the Greta Thunberg types.

Ironically, you get penalized for not shopping local. Hasbro is a massive company but they likely don’t want players to realize this while they are pushing feel good messages.

Many of us played Monopoly as a way to realize a bit about making it in a capitalistic society. The new cards give more a feel good appeal rather than a teachable moment about saving money and investing.

Through April 9th, fans can vote on the new Community Chest cards at MonopolyCommunityChest.com.
