Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey addressed the possibility of running for Texas once again over the weekend. He also hosted a star-studded fundraiser to raise money for the state.
While appearing on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” on Friday night, McConaughey was asked once again about a possible gubernatorial run in Texas.
“Well, it’s come up a lot lately. And I’m gonna say to you now the same thing I’ve been saying, which is true. It’s not a dodge,” McConaughey told Fallon. “And when I say it’s something I’m giving consideration, absolutely.”
“What an honorable thing to even be able to consider,” he added. “But that’s no further than that right now, sir.”

McConaughey went on to talk about the hardships that he and his family faced in Texas during the February Texas snowstorms in February.
“Look, we’re doing good. We had, you know, a couple pipes break,” he said. “We’ve had to pull up some drywall in the house. Lost power. Just got off having to boil water four days ago.”
“But the problem in Texas is there’s tens of thousands that aren’t as good a shape as we are right now,” McConaughey added. “There’s a lot of people that are out of home.”
Wanting to do his part to help his fellow Texans in their time of need, McConaughey stepped up to host the “We’re Texas” virtual benefit concert on Sunday night.
The two-hour benefit featured performances from such A-list country music stars as Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves, as well as speaking appearances by the likes of Jamie Foxx and Megan Thee Stallion.
McConaughey opened the fundraiser with a monologue that was truly touching.
“Tonight we’re going to share with you song, stories and traditions that define the DNA of this state so many of us call home,” he said.
“I’m gonna be your guide, your DJ, your friend,” McConaughey continued. “I’m going to be walking you through this night of artistry, this album of big hearts and hospitality, this jam session of generosity, as I’m calling it. Tonight, we’re going to show you the soul of Texas.”
