As UFC 257 approaches, it seems like most people believe that the rematch between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will be more competitive than their short, 2014 clash. But, according to Colby Covington, his former teammate Poirier is going to get “sparked” on January 23rd.

Covington lights up Poirier while making a prediction

Poirier and McGregor battled for the first time back in 2014, when both men were competing at featherweight. McGregor proceeded to finish the fight in the opening round with strikes.

Since then, both men have added titles and big wins to their resumes. While Poirier hasn’t won as much gold as McGregor, he has established himself as one of the top lightweights of this era.

Accordingly, the consensus seems to be that the rematch at UFC 257, will be a more competitive and likely longer fight.

But, while talking to Submission Radio recently, Covington had this to say about Poirier and the upcoming fight (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“My best fake friend Dustin Sorrier. All I can say guys, is you guys make sure you got the Kleenex ready at the press conference, because you know Dustin Sorrier is gonna break down on the mic, he’s gonna cry to the world, get everybody to feel sympathy and feel bad for him.

He’s gonna get sparked again in the first round, because he’s completely washed up and has no chin anymore and no heart.”

“It’s not gonna be competitive,” Covington added. “I think Conor’s just gonna spark him first round.

Just get the Kleenex ready, cause Dustin’s gonna be crying up a storm at the press conference and getting everybody to feel bad for him.

‘Wah-wah, feel bad for me, I didn’t accomplish my dream.’ Yeah, cause you’re a (expletive). You didn’t work hard enough for it.

What is up with society these days? People think that everyone should get a participation trophy. Dustin needs his safe space. Go in your safe space, Dustin.”

Thoughts?

So, anytime you’re talking about comments from Covington, it’s always hard to determine whether he truly believes what he’s saying. Or, if it’s part of his ‘Chaos’ act.

It does seem like he has some serious, personal issues with his former training partner. So, one could also argue his take is biased.

All that said, is it possible that McGregor could land another, pounding left shortly into the rematch? It is.

But, it’s also possible that Poirier’s heavy hands, improved wrestling, and top game pose a serious threat to Conor as well.

UFC 257 will go down on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
