WLC Fighters Who Can Challenge For The World Lethwei Title

As we close up 2020 and look towards 2021, plans for World Lethwei Championship continue to amp up.

Big things are in order for the WLC in the coming months and that could result in championship runs for these current fighters.

At the moment, the WLC has five world champions including four in the men’s ranks and one in the women’s.

Dave Leduc holds the cruiserweight title, Naimjon Tuhtaboyev the middleweight belt, Sasha Moisa is the light middleweight champion and Antonio Faria the light welterweight king.

Souris Manfredi is the women’s bantamweight champion in WLC.

All five are relatively new in their reigns with Tuhtaboyev and Manfredi having captured their titles this year and Leduc, Moisa and Faria in 2019. Faria is the lone fighter to make a successful title defense to date.

Here’s a look at some athletes that could be next to challenge for – and capture – WLC gold:

Yoel Paique, Light Welterweight

At the recent WLC: Lethwei Showcase, Yoel Paique showed that he is just that, a showcase fighter.

Paique landed with several low kicks that floored and finished Saw Hla Min early in the second round.

The bout served as his debut with the promotion, and you can bet WLC officials are anxious to get him back to action.

Nico Mendes, Middleweight

In the co-main event of WLC: Lethwei Showcase, Nico Mendes put his full arsenal of strikes on display, and needed just 90 seconds.

Mendes earned a knockout over Saensuek when he landed with a knee.

Omar Mahir, Welterweight

Earlier this year, we were all witness to the exceptional skills of Omar Mahri.

The welterweight contender earned a first round knockout over Tophik Abdullaev at WLC: Hideout Battle.

Thway Thit Win Hlaing, Light Middleweight

Look for some big moves in the near future for Thway Thit Win Hlaing.

The last time we saw the light middleweight in action he was knocking out Burutlek Petchyindee Academy at WLC: Fearless Tigers in the second round. The win kept the star fighter unbeaten in his career.
