Dolly Parton Shares How God Speaks To Her

In a recent interview, Dolly Parton opened up about her marriage to Carl Dean, even going so far as to say the enduring couple is so close that she has even come to believe that God speaks to her through her husband.

The country music legend has been married to Dean for 54 years. Which is quite an impressive feat in the wild entertainment industry, where most marriages are lucky to last even a fraction of that time!

“We’re so in tune with each other, I’ll be thinking about something that’s worrying me or grieving me, and I’ll pray about something, you know, kind of waiting for an answer,” Parton explained in an interview with late night host Stephen Colbert.

“And he’ll sometimes just up and say something, and it’s just like, ‘Well, I didn’t say anything to you about that!'”

The 74 year-old singer went on to say that Dean has the uncanny ability to reassure her about the exact right things.

Even when she has not told her husband that something is bothering her. 

“I don’t know if he just senses how I’m feeling, but I have always said that God speaks to me through him,” Parton  continued. “I guess that’s what love is. I guess when you’re in tune, and you know somebody so well…”

Dolly Parton Discusses How Empathetic Her Husband Is 

While Dolly acknowledged that part of this is likely due to spending over a half a century together, she also said that Dean is a truly empathetic individual.

“He’s very intuitive, too. I think he’s kinda clairvoyant at times,” she explained. 

Just a few years ago, Dolly and her husband renewed their vows on their fiftieth wedding anniversary.

Though this showed once again how devoted they remain to one another, Dean has since picked up a habit that gets on Dolly’s nerves.

“Now he tells people that I’m his second wife,” she revealed. “I said, ‘Don’t say that! I’m still the only one!'”

Carl Dean Prefers To Stay Out Of The Spotlight

It’s no easy feat to avoid the spotlight when you’re married to an internationally known superstar. Yet Dean has managed to do just that.

Dolly recently talked about why her husband decided to avoid the spotlight.

“A lot of people have thought that [he doesn’t exist] through the years, because he does not want to be in the spotlight at all,” Parton told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s just not who he is. He’s like, a quiet, reserved person.”

Instead of pushing Dean to put himself out there in the spotlight, Dolly has “always respected and appreciated” his private nature.

“He said, ‘I didn’t choose this world, I chose you, and you chose that world. But we can keep our lives separate and together.’ And we do and we have,” Parton said. “We’ve been together 56 years, married 54.”

After over fifty years together, this couple is definitely doing something right!

Perhaps other celebrities should take some pages out of Dolly Parton’s playbook, and start keeping their love lives more private as well.
