Comedian Whitney Cummings Defies Hollywood To Defend Roseanne Barr

It’s been two years since Roseanne Barr was “cancelled” by the liberal world of Hollywood for posting a tweet about former Barack Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett that was declared racist. Now, comedian Whitney Cummings, who was an executive producer on the “Roseanne” reboot at the time of Barr’s firing, boldly defies the Hollywood standard to not just defend Roseanne but also Trump supporters.

Whitney Cummings Was An Executive Producer For “Roseanne”

The 38-year-old DC native is no stranger to controversy. Her comedic stylings are out-loud, sometimes filthy, and certainly not for the faint-hearted.

Cummings was the executive producer of ABC’s reboot of “Roseanne” for 9 episodes in 2018.

To give you a feel for just how far left Hollywood was pushing the sitcom, Cummings once told late-night host Conan O’Brien that she was reported to Human Resources just for saying “Merry Christmas” to one of the show’s interns.

Whitney Cummings Defends Roseanne Barr

In a new interview with The Daily Beast, Cummings made it clear that, like many other comedians, she’s no fan of cancel culture.

While she does not agree with the comments in Roseanne Barr’s controversial May 2018 tweet, she also does not understand why some people were even listening to her political pro-Donald Trump opinions in the first place.

“Also, why the f— are you listening to them? When people are like, ‘Roseanne’s so toxic,’ then why do you follow her? You’re the one listening, responding, and just retweeted it. Just ignore her,” Cummings said.

“This whole cancel culture thing, when people freak out, well you’re the ones amplifying it and legitimizing it by being outraged. I don’t even think Roseanne believes what she says half the time.”

Back in 2019, Whitney Cummings discussed her departure from “Roseanne” with Sirius XM host and shock jock Howard Stern.

You can hear her explain why she quit in the video below.

Whitney Cummings Doesn’t Like How Hollywood Treats Trump Supporters

Though Cummings is a liberal herself, she finds the way Hollywood demeans Trump supporters to be disturbing.

“It’s so weird to me in Hollywood where writers are like, ‘F— the right!’ You’re a writer! You’re supposed to want to empathize with characters you don’t necessarily agree with because you have to write them,” she said.

“I just try to take the judgment out of it, and the emotion out of it.”

Cummings is a comedian who makes a living touring across the country. So she knows that it’s important to understand Trump supporters so that her brand of comedy can appeal to all audiences.

Let’s Try To Understand Different Perspectives

“I’m fascinated by playing devil’s advocate and want to understand the people I disagree with. I don’t want to dismiss and malign,” she explained.

Cummings added, “I think it’s very self-righteous or sanctimonious to just dismiss people we disagree with without trying to understand why they believe what they believe. I don’t get it.”

The comedian’s roots contributed to her appreciation for different worldviews.

“I grew up in Washington, D.C., mostly, but also in Virginia and West Virginia, so I grew up seeing both sides, and people believing different things. Even though I don’t agree with somebody, I don’t think they’re dumb.”

Hollywood has become so dominated by radical liberals. So it’s rare to see someone in the entertainment industry humanize Trump supporters in this way .

Kudos to Whitney Cummings for having the guts to admit that Trump voters are still human beings who deserve respect.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
