Jorge Masvidal

Following his loss to Jorge Masvidal last November, Nate Diaz immediately called for a rematch, and it looks like the UFC’s finally taking steps to make that happen.

Dana White says Diaz – Masvidal 2 is in the works

Diaz and Masvidal fought at UFC 244 last November, in what was one of the year’s most highly-anticipated contests. So much so, the fight was for the ‘BMF’ title…

Masvidal ended up winning the bout via TKO, due to a doctor’s stoppage, as Diaz was cut by his right eye. The Stockton star vehemently protested the stoppage and called for a rematch.

Well, fast forward to today, and TMZ Sports recently reported that the UFC is close to booking Diaz – Masvidal 2 for December 12th. White has also told ESPN that the promotion is hoping to sign the fight, but that the fight’s not done yet.

The report also states that the rematch could happen in January.

Timing’s right?

It remains to be seen of course, if the rematch happens, but there are reasons to think it will.

Immediately after UFC 244, White didn’t sound too interested in the rematch, and it was clear it wasn’t a priority for Masvidal either. At the time, Masvidal was still hoping to fight Conor McGregor and the UFC also had plans for him to battle welterweight champ, Kamaru Usman.

Well, now Masvidal has faced and lost to Usman, and McGregor’s supposedly retired. So, the timing seems right for a rematch.
