UFC 253: Jan Blachowicz Takes Out Dominick Reyes, Wins LHW Crown

Jan Blachowicz made good on his prediction for the UFC 253 c0-main event, as the veteran fighter took out Dominick Reyes to win the vacant, light heavyweight title.

Round one

Both men came out throwing leg kicks. Not long in, Reyes grazed Blachowicz with a huge left. Blachowicz came with a combo a couple of minutes in, but the volume was relatively small early on. Blachowicz planted another kick to the lead leg of Reyes. Blachowicz threatened with a hard left hook and followed up with a combo moments later. The right side of Reyes’ body had a much red mark from taking a body kick.

Round two

Reyes came out more aggressively to begin round two. Blachowicz resumed his pressuring, but neither man was throwing much. A couple minutes in, the light heavyweights picked up the pace. Reyes fired a nice combo several minutes in and just missed with a head kick. Reyes started throwing more kicks but Blachowicz responded with several hard hooks. Reyes’ nose was bloodied by one of the punches (actually, it looks broken).

Moments later, Blachowicz wobbled Reyes badly with a huge hook and as he followed up, the right was stopped. Wow. Reyes protested the stoppage but Blachowicz is the new light heavyweight champ.

After the bout, Blachowicz called out Jon Jones by saying he’s “waiting” for the former champ.
