Chris Weidman wasn’t able to score an emphatic victory at UFC Vegas 6. But, the former middleweight champ out wrestled Omari Akhmedov and managed to end a two fight losing skid.

Round one

Weidman came out light on his feet, shot in, but Akhmedov  defended. Moments later, Weidman clinched up again, but Akhmedov broke free. Weidman dived in for a single leg, but once again Akhmedov  defended.

Weidman switched to southpaw but Akhmedov tagged him a right. Moments later Akhmedov  shot in but Weidman easily defended. Finally, around three minutes in, Weidman tripped Akhmedov  to the floor. The latter temporarily got back to his feet but Weidman dragged him back down.

The former middleweight champ landed a few shots from above, before the frame ended.

Round two

Akhmedov threatened with a big right moments into round two. Moments later, Akhmedov took Weidman to the floor. Weidman quickly got back to his feet, and almost scored his own takedown moments later. Weidman clinched up not long after in search of another TD. Akhmedov defended, however, and scored with some punches.

The fight returned to the feet not long after. Late in the round, Weidman fell to the floor after missing with a knee. Weidman popped back up, but shortly after, Akhmedov took him  down again.

Round three

Heading into the third frame, it was likely one round a piece. Weidman clinched up shortly into round three, and was able to take Akhmedov down. The latter worked his way up and out, but Weidman tripped him back down.

In the ensuing scramble, Weidman moved to mount and started hunting for an arm-triangle-choke. Akhmedov defended, and moments later, Weidman fired down a couple of elbows. Weidman started working for an arm-triangle-choke again. Weidman tossed down more elbows from above, and Akhmedov gave up his back.

The final horn went, and Weidman should return to the win column. All three judges gave Weidman the nod.
