Kareem Abdul-Jabbar son Adam stabbing charges

Fans of the legendary NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are in shock after his 28-year-old son Adam was charged for stabbing a neighbor seven times in a dispute that occurred over a trashcan.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Son Adam Charged In Stabbing

Daily Mail reported that Adam Abdul-Jabbar was charged on Tuesday with three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, a felony count of carrying a dirk or dagger, and three enhancements of inflicting great bodily injury.

If convicted on all charges, Adam Abdul-Jabbar is facing nearly 10 years in prison.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on June 9. Adam Abdul-Jabbar got into an argument with his 60-year-old neighbor Ray Winsor in San Clemente, California.

Winsor, who shares a driveway with Abdul-Jabbar, confronted the young man for not taking in the trashcans for his 83-year-old grandmother, with whom he lives. This enraged Abdul-Jabbar, who proceeded to stab Winsor seven times.

Abdul-Jabbar’s Victim Recalls Stabbing

“I sort of got on him because the lady who takes care of him is 83-year-old, he doesn’t do anything for her and it just bums me out, she’s in a walker taking her trash cans down,” Winsor told Eyewitness News.

He said that Abdul-Jabbar responded by screaming, “Shut your f***ing mouth, I’m gonna stick a knife through your teeth” before he began stabbing him.

Winsor just thought he was being punched at first. However, he soon realized that he was being stabbed when “blood was running down my back.”

“After the fourth punch, I felt a very sharp pain and noticed blood coming out of me and then I had one to the top of my head and I was trying to get back to my house and he was in front of me,” he said.

Winsor lost so much blood that he nearly died of his injuries. He collapsed as soon as he got to the emergency room.

District Attorney Speaks Out

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer spoke out on Tuesday to condemn the stabbing.

“A dispute between neighbors should never escalate to violence, much less the ruthless nature of this attack,” he said. “Violence of any kind will not be tolerated in Orange County and those who choose to inflict violence on others will be prosecuted by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office to the fullest extent of the law.”

Abdul-Jabbar was arrested without incident and freed the next day on $25,000 bail.

His lawyer, Shawn Holley, said in a statement that it was the “complaining witness” who “initiated the altercation and it was Mr. Abdul-Jabbar who contacted the police to report it.”

“For these reasons and many more, we are disappointed that this case was filed, but stand ready to address the charges in court,” Holley said, according to NBC News.

Abdul-Jabbar’s legendary father has yet to comment publicly on the vicious stabbing.
