Bo Derek Confesses Why She and John Corbett Never Tied The Knot

Actress Bo Derek, best known for her bombshell role in the 1979 movie 10, just gave a new interview in which she revealed why she has never married her longtime partner John Corbett. Also an advocate for Veterans, Bo Derek has been with Corbett for a whopping 18 years.

Bo Derek On Not Marrying John Corbett

Bo Derek, 63, has been with John Corbett, for nearly two decades, yet they have no plans to marry anytime soon.. 59-year-old Corbett is a fan favorite for his roles in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, “Northern Exposure” and “Sex And The City,” 

“I think when you’re beginning a young family and you’re going to have children and set up this new family tree branch, it’s obviously a wonderful commitment and it’s meaningful,” said Derek told Fox News. “But for us in our lives, it hasn’t been yet.”

Last month, Derek appeared on talkshoplive, a live video streaming platform that she used to promote her shampoo line for canines named Bo Derek Pet Care. Corbett made an appearance as well along with several of their pets.

“He’s funny,” said Derek. “He’s known for being in some of the greatest comedies of all time, so it comes naturally to him. I’m pleasant, but I don’t have that instinct. So when he found out I was doing it, the wheels started turning right away. He was great. And he’s so sweet to help out and make fun of the situation.”

Derek also discussed how her famous scene in 10, in which she wore a flesh-toned swimsuit while her sun-streaked blonde mane is braided, made her a household name overnight.

The actress wistfully recalled: 

“It was one of those moments where a fairy godmother comes in, taps you on the forehead with her magic wand and changes everything. People say I’m an icon, whatever that means. I wouldn’t call myself that. I don’t take it personally. But I played a part that certainly became iconic for sure.”

Bo Derek Helps Veterans

When she isn’t focusing on Corbett and on her career, Derek spends her time helping American veterans.

Earlier this month, she told Fox News that she encourages her fans to seek out overlooked organizations that aim to assist veterans.

“There are some great ones, but just be careful with anything that attracts scammers,” she warned. “There’s a special place in hell for those people who scam people out of money over veterans. But, thankfully, there are many other organizations that aim to genuinely help. You just have to do some homework. But it’s so rewarding.”

“As for me, I’ve always worked directly with the Veterans Administration,” Derek added. “My brother, who passed away, loved the games and what they meant to our veterans. We created a family fun[d] to support those veterans and help pay their expenses to go to these events.”

Derek’s father, Paul Collins, was a radio operator during the Korean War, and her stepfather was also a veteran. 

She Loves To Give Back

In the end, much of Derek’s life is devoted to giving back to others.

“My mother embedded into my psyche a long time ago how fortunate I am and how many blessings I have received in my life,” she said. “There’s contentment in my life. My glass is looking half full. I know we all go through grief, and I have certainly experienced some pretty heavy grief… But all I can do is appreciate the blessings I was given.”
