Squidbillies actor fired Dolly Parton cancel culture

Cancel culture claims another one. Actor Stuart Daniel Baker was just fired from a longtime gig on the Adult Swim show “Squidbillies” over “extremely offensive and derogatory” comments he posted about Dolly Parton following her recent comments about Black Lives Matter.

In the wake of Baker’s post, calls to cancel the “Squidbillies” actor went out on social media.

Stuart D. Baker Bashes Dolly Parton Over Black Lives Matter Comment

Baker, who also goes by the stage name of Unknown Hinson, went on a vulgar tirade against the country music legend on Facebook using terms like “freak titted”, “bimbo” and “slut”.

The actor was triggered by the Dolly Parton’s comments in a recent interview with Billboard.

During the interview, Dolly said, “I understand people having to make themselves known and felt and seen,” Parton said. “And of course Black lives matter. Do we think our little white asses are the only ones that matter? No!”

The Billboard article also expressed Dolly’s “unequivocal in her support of protestors and the Black Lives Matter”.

Some of Dolly’s fans were caught off guard. But Stuart Daniel Baker’s response was an extreme one.

Screenshots show that Baker’s controversial post went on to accuse Parton of “forsaking your own race, culture and heritage.”

“Squidbillies” Actor Fired For Dolly Parton Comments

After screenshots of Baker’s post went viral, “Squidbillies” creators Jim Fortier and Dave Willis responded with post on social media announcing the actor had been fired.

“We’re aware of the extremely offensive and derogatory social media posts made late last week by Stuart D. Baker,” creators of “Squidbillies,” they said. “The views he expressed do not reflect our own personal values or the values of the show that we and many others have worked hard to produce over the past 15 years. For those reasons, production of Squidbillies will continue without Mr. Baker, effective immediately.”

The “Squidbillies” animated series has aired for over a decade as part of the late night lineup on Cartoon Network. It was recently renewed for a 13th season.

Baker had voiced the character of Early Cuyler ever since the series premiere back in 2005. The animated series is about a family of squids living in a rural Appalachian community in Georgia.

“Squidbillies” creators have not yet revealed whether Baker will be replaced by another actor. Or if his character, Early, will be written off the show entirely.

Cancel Culture Claims Stuart Daniel Baker

Yes, Baker’s criticism of Parton was harsh and his language was vulgar. We don’t condone it.

But we also can’t ignore the unsettling reality of how quickly someone can be “cancelled” for exercising their first amendment rights.

In the old days, there were human resources processes and protocols for dealing with problematic or questionable behavior.

But now, a person can get fired at the drop of a hat. Cancel culture is becoming the norm. Stuart Baker is not the first actor to be fired for off-color comments.

ABC opened that can of worms when they fired Roseanne Barr on a dime. And Hollywood has been spiraling every since.

This America is nearly unrecognizable. One where it’s becomes unsafe to express a personal opinion. If we allow this to continue, no one’s livelihood will safe.
