UFC Fight Island 1: Tim Elliott Outworks Ryan Benoit in High Paced Scrap

The flyweight division delivered yet another, entertaining bout tonight at UFC Fight Island 1, as Tim Elliott and Ryan Benoit went to war for three rounds.

Round one

Elliott, as per usual, came out pressuring, throwing the odd kick. Benoit fired back with a big shot of his own, however, not long after. Elliott continued to stay busy with jabs and kicks, and then shot in, looking for a takedown.

Benoit, however, defended, and the striking battle ensued. Elliott shot in again late in the frame, and landed a shot from above.

Round two

Elliott came forward right out of the gate and Benoit looked to counter. Around a minute in, Benoit appeared to Elliott  with a kick as he tried to change levels. The rugged vet seem unfazed, however, and continued to pressure. Benoit chucked in a hard uppercut a couple of minutes in and stayed light on his feet. Mid round, however, it was Benoit who shot in and found himself ensnared in a choke.

After some scrambling, Benoit worked his way out of the choke but he remained on the bottom. In the ensuing scramble, Benoit locked in a kneebar that had Elliott wincing in pain, but he didn’t tap and escaped. Wow. Benoit fired in some hard shots in the round’s final moments, before Elliott took it down and landed some elbows. Great round.

Round three

Elliott charged into begin the final frame, and planted some standing elbows. Elliott clinched up and started looking for a sweep. Elliott looked like he might be having some sort of issue with a finger on his right hand. The vet stayed busy with his jab but hardly threw his right hand. Benoit cracked Elliott  with a big right late in the round, but the latter rebounded and fired back.

Elliott clinched up late in the round but Benoit tossed back some heavy shots. Awesome fight.
