After a prolonged stay in a Russian medical facility, it’s being reported that Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father of UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, has passed away.

Reports out of Russia say the renowned coach has died

Nurmagomedov was hospitalized back in April, for what was believed to be pneumonia at the time. But, then it was reported that Khabib’s father had in fact contracted COVID-19 and that he suffered complications from the virus, including a heart attack and two strokes.

Nurmagomedov was reportedly put into medically induced comas twice and although recently there were reports that the 57-year-old is improving, it’s being reported that today that he has passed away. Sputnik International was apparently the first to report the news.

RT Sport is another of the outlets reporting that Nurmagomedov has died, citing quotes from family friend and Chechen leader, Ramazan Rabadanov.

“Abdulmanap suffered two strokes, in his heart [a heart attack] and brain,” Rabadanov reportedly told Russian outlet Championat.

“They managed to treat his heart, but not his brain, so he didn’t emerge from a coma.

“The situation was too serious, it was already too late.

“The doctors did everything they could, they even tried to connect him with the president [Putin], but his condition was too serious.”

So, it’s a sad day for the Nurmagomedov family and the MMA world. You have to wonder if the passing of his father, could impact when Khabib will fight again. The star was expected to face Justin Gaethje in September.
