NFL Allows Helmet Decals Honoring Police Brutality Victims After Denying Christian And Pro-Police Messages

The NFL will reportedly allow players to wear helmet decals that honor victims of police brutality this season. The hypocrisy of this move is staggering given the NFL’s past rulings on requests to honor the police and Christianity based on its uniform and personal messages policies.

NFL Green Lights Helmet Decals Honoring Police Brutality Victims

According to Newsmax, the NFL Players Association has been working with the league since last month to figure out the best way to honor those who have been killed by police, like George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

“They’re still in discussions, but this sounds like it’s going to happen,” NFL Network’s Steve Wyche said to Front Office Sports. “You might have one team with 15 different decals.”

As of now, the NFL has reportedly made the decision to permit the helmet decal request. So they are just working on the detail of the actual decals. Such as which victim’s initials can appear on player helmets.

The decision is reportedly in response to nationwide protests after the death of George Floyd, who died tragically while in the custody of Minneapolis police back in May.

The Hypocrisy Of The NFL

Here’s the rub. The NFL has a longstanding history of denying similar expressions.

Back in 2016, the NFL refused to allow Dallas Cowboys wear helmet decals to honor the Dallas police officers. Those officers were murdered by a Black Lives Matter supporter.

And just last year, the NFL infamously fined Christian player Demario Davis of the New Orleans Saints for wearing a headband that read “Man Of God.”

At the time, the NFL cited their rule banning “personal messages”. So it’s okay to honor victims of racism or police brutality but NOT okay to honor police or God.

Why that’s not hypocritical at all!

There are multiple instances of players being fined for wearing cleats to honor people lost to domestic violence or cancer. DeAngelo Williams, William Gay, the list goes on.

Back in 2016, Avery Williams claimed the league threatened to fine him if he wore 9/11 tribute cleats. The threat was real enough that the linebacker opted to auction rather than wear the special cleats.

Of course, the NFL took no issue when Colin Kaepernick wore socks depicting cops as pigs so I guess they do allow some exceptions to their uniform and personal messages policies after all.

Roger Goodell Issues Apology

Of course, all of this comes hot on the heels of Roger Goodell walking back the league’s previous stance on anthem kneeling.

The NFL has been catering to the most radical, race-baiting contingent of the left ever since Floyd’s death.

In June, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell issued his formal apology for opposing the players who took a knee during the national anthem to protest against racial inequality in America.

“We, the National Football League, condemn racism and the systematic oppression of Black People,” Goodell said in a statement. “We, the National Football League, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest. We, the National Football League, believe Black Lives Matter. I personally protest with you and want to be part of the much-needed change in this country.”

It’s unfortunate that football has become so heavily politicized. And, the league continues to cater to the radical left at every turn.

If the NFL is now good with anthem kneeling and social justice helmet decals – what else is in store for us?

We can only imagine what concession they will make for them next!

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
