Navajo Nation Proposes New Name For Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins recently announced that they would be changing their name after 87 years in the NFL. Now, the Navajo Nation is throwing their two cents into the ring with a suggestion for the Redskins’ new team name.

Redskins Cave To Calls For Name Change

The Washington Redskins finally buckled to pressure from the politically correct left and agreed to ditch their old name. They said they would reveal the new name at a later date.

Since then, the Redskins have received ample backlash. And it’s not just from their loyal fans. Many say they’ve lost all respect for the team since they caved to the politically correct police.

Navajo Nation Suggests New Name For Redskins

The New York Post reported that in the wake of NFL team’s announcement, Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez released a statement suggesting a new name for the Washington football team:

“July 13, 2020 is now a historic day for all Indigenous peoples around the world as the NFL Washington-based team officially announced the retirement of the racist and disparaging ‘Redskins’ team name and logo. This change did not come about willingly by the team’s owners, but by the mounting pressure and advocacy of Indigenous peoples such as Amanda Blackhorse, and many other warriors who fought long and hard for this change.”

The statement continued: “We strongly encourage the NFL Washington organization to rename their team in such a way that truly honors and respects the First Americans of this country. Renaming the team ‘Code Talkers’ to honor the Navajo Code Talkers, and other tribal nations who used their sacred language to help win World War II, would set the team on a path to restoring its reputation and correcting the historical misrepresentation of Indigenous peoples.”

Redskins Release Statement On Name And Logo

The team gave a statement about retiring the team name and logo:

“On July 3rd, we announced the commencement of a thorough review of the team’s name. That review has begun in earnest. As part of this process, we want to keep our sponsors, fans and community apprised of our thinking as we go forward,” the team said in a statement. “Today, we are announcing we will be retiring the Redskins name and logo upon completion of this review.”

“[Owner] Dan Snyder and Coach [Ron] Rivera are working closely to develop a new name and design approach that will enhance the standing of our proud, tradition rich franchise and inspire our sponsors, fans and community for the next 100 years,” they added.

The decision came after major retailers pulled team merchandise. Social justice warriors took to their keyboards to apply pressure. As a result, Amazon, Walmart, Target, Nike and Dick’s Sporting Goods all removed Redskins merchandise from their websites.

In the end, the Redskins brand has become yet another victim of the radical left.

UPDATE (7/15/20): The Navajo Nation has since rescinded their request for the name the “Code Talkers” to be used after receiving criticism for it from other Native Americans.

“The Navajo Nation, under this administration, will not pursue the renaming of the Washington NFL team after the Code Talkers,” Nez said in a new statement obtained by The Hill. “I strongly agree that our Indigenous people should not be used as mascots.”

We wish the team formerly known as the Redskins the best of luck. Surely it will be easy to find a new name that will offend absolutely nobody. Especially in 2020.

It’s a minefield out there these days!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
