Mike Perry Says He’d Sit “Skinny, Weak” Nate Diaz Down

Mike Perry hasn’t proactively called Nate Diaz out. But, according to the heavy-handed welterweight, if the two were to fight, things won’t go well for the Stockton star.

Perry says he’d “sit” Diaz “down”

Perry recorded the 14th win of his career last weekend at UFC Vegas 4, by outscoring Mickey Gall for the decision win. It was a pivotal victory for ‘Platinum’, as he was coming off consecutive losses to Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal.

Following the win, Perry spoke with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. The latter proceeded to float the idea of Perry throwing hands with Diaz next. 

Perry made it clear that he respects what Diaz has accomplished in his career. But, the 28-year-old believes he has too much power for Diaz to handle (quotes via MMA Junkie).

I think he’s a skinny, weak, little (expletive), like Mickey Gall,” Perry said. “I respect what he’s done in this sport. He plays the guard game, jiu-jitsu, and (expletive).

He thinks he can box with (those) little weak-ass punches that he’s got – little salt and pepper punches. He doesn’t stand a chance to hit me hard enough.”

“I’d hit him on the feet (the) same way Jorge Masvidal did,” Perry said. “I’d play his guard. I’d get half guard (and) sit on top of him.

It’d look exactly the same way the Mickey Gall did, to be honest with you. If you guys liked that fight, then yeah, you’ll probably like the Nate Diaz fight, too because he’s a little more durable.

He’ll probably try to stand there and box back with me, but my power punches (are) just – I’d sit him down.”

Reaction?

So, would the fight unfold similarly to Perry’s last bout? And are there similarities between Diaz and Gall?

Well, few would argue that Perry would have the power advantage against Diaz, and the latter could end up taking some heavy shots if they fight. But, Diaz’s boxing is a level up from Gall’s. So, Perry could end up drawing more fire.

Diaz, however, is a cardio machine. Since he’s such a big name, it would likely be a headlining, five-round fight. So, if Perry couldn’t take Diaz out early, he could find himself in trouble in the later rounds.

At the end of the day though, it’s hard to imagine this fight materializing. Yes, on paper it has the makings of being a fantastic fight, and the lead-up to it would be awesome.

But, Perry probably isn’t a big enough draw yet to pull Diaz into the Octagon. Especially when you consider people still talk about the possibility of a rubber match between Diaz and Conor McGregor.
