Highest Paid Defender In NFL Says League Owes Colin Kaepernick A Job And An Apology

Myles Garrett, the highest paid defender in the NFL, spoke out on Thursday to say that the National Football League owes Colin Kaepernick both a job and an apology.

Garrett Says NFL Owes Kaepernick

Yahoo News reported that Garrett said that until Kaepernick is signed by an NFL team, he will continue to question whether or not the league is doing everything it can to further the Black Lives Matter movement.

Garrett said:

“I feel like they should have a bigger voice. They have so much access to resources. They should be able to speak up. I believe Kap deserves an apology. I know it’s one thing to stand behind us and support our efforts, but they should be standing beside us in what we’re doing, seeing as there are a lot of players big and small in their stardom trying to do things for their hometowns, for where they play and just for areas that they know have been affected. I feel like they should be right there beside us trying to lead the charge.”

Garrett, who is a defensive end for the Cleveland Browns, isn’t the only player who thinks Kaepernick should get a job in the NFL.

Matt Ryan, quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, said that Kaepernick should have “every opportunity” to resume his NFL career. And, Carlos Hyde, who played with Kaepernick in San Francisco, said if an NFL team signed Kaepernick, it would show how serious the NFL is about helping improve racial inequalities.

Kaepernick’s History With The NFL

Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since leaving the San Francisco 49ers after the 2016 season. During that season, he made headlines for taking a knee during the national anthem before his games, claiming that he was doing so to protest against racial inequality in the United States.

Millions of Americans were offended by this, however, as they saw it as a sign of disrespect to the American flag and to those who have fought and died for it.

Liberals have turned Kaepernick into a martyr of sorts, claiming that he has yet to be signed by another NFL team because of “racism.”

Others, however, have pointed out that Kaepernick led the 49ers to an abysmal losing record during his final season with the team. They argue that his lack of football talent may be the reason he has yet to be signed.

NFL Commissioner Begs Teams

In the wake of the death of George Floyd, the NFL has been catering to Kaepernick and to Black Lives Matter more than ever. Last month, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was practically begging teams to sign Kaepernick.

“Well, listen, if he wants to resume his career in the NFL, then obviously it’s gonna take a team to make that decision,” Goodell said. “But I welcome that, support a club making that decision, and encourage them to do that.”

“If his efforts are not on the field but continuing to work in this space, we welcome him to that table and to help us, guide us, help us make better decisions about the kinds of things that need to be done in the communities,” he added. “We have invited him in before, and we want to make sure that everybody’s welcome at that table and trying to help us deal with some very complex, difficult issues that have been around for a long time.”

We’ll have to wait an see what the season holds for Colin Kaepernick – for the whole NFL for that matter – and if Myles Garrett has any sway at all with coaches and teams.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
