Although Cynthia Calvillo had trouble making 115 pounds during her run in the UFC’s strawweight division, Jessica Eye is more than confident she’s going to have the size and power advantage when they throw hands.

Eye is “jacked”

Calvillo is moving up to the flyweight division, after failing to make weight on two different occasions at strawweight. The 32-year-old fighter has been tapped to fight Eye in the headliner of the UFC’s card this Saturday, which is going down at the Apex Facility in Las Vegas.

In Eye, Calvillo will face an opponent who knows what it’s like to jump up a weight class. As the 33-year-old moved up to bantamweight, before returning to 125, after incurring several losses.

While talking with MMA Junkie recently about this Saturday’s bout, the flyweight contender had this warning for Calvillo.

“I am jacked about how much I know my size will play into a factor with this,” Eye said. “I remember going up a weight class and thinking that, ‘Oh, I can hang with them.’

You know what I mean? ‘It’s hard to make flyweight, but I can hang with bantamweights’ – and that’s not true. That wasn’t true. It really wasn’t.”

“Evil” also had this to say about Calvillo, and what she’s expecting on Saturday night.

“I know Cynthia is a gamer,” Eye said. “I’m sure this has got to heighten her sense. I’m sure she’s bringing her A game.

She’s fighting the No. 1 girl. This could be a big jump for her. This could be a big day for her, you know what I mean?

“I could see why she would want the fight, and you know why I want the fight?

Because I want to prove that no matter who they put in front of me, I am as good as I believe I am and as good as I know I am, and I like winning. I like winning, and it’s all about a win.”

We shall see

It remains to be seen whether Calvillo is out powered by Eye this Saturday. One thing is certain, however; Calvillo has been given a big opportunity to make a huge splash at 125, right out of the gate.

As Eye noted, she’s currently the #1 contender in the flyweight division. So, if Calvillo can score a win, she’ll jump right into title contention.

Eye (15-7) is coming off a decision win over Viviane Araujo in December, after being KO’d by champion Valentina Shevchenko last June.

Calvillo (8-1-1-), on the other hand, fought Marina Rodriguez to a draw in her last outing, which took place in December. She had won two straight prior to that.
