It hasn’t taken Cynthia Calvillo long to enter the title shot picture at flyweight, as the former strawweight got the better of contender Jessica Eye in the UFC Vegas 2 headliner.

Round one

Both women worked behind their jabs early on. Calvillo threatened with a head kick mid round and both women picked up the volume.

Eye scored with aright hand but Calvillo fired back with a combo. Late in the round, Calvillo fired up another head kick that partially landed.

Calvillo planted a nice right in the final minute of the frame and Eye stayed busy with her jab. The flyweights winged big punches before the horn went.

Round two

Both women scored with some hard shots early into round two. A minute in, Calvillo  shot in and took Eye down on a follow-up attempt. Eye worked her way back up but Calvillo proceeded to take her back. Calvillo  landed some shots from above before the frame ended.

Round three

Eye and Calvillo continued to stay busy with their jabs in round three. Calvillo  threw the odd kick but the action was largely boxing.

Eye fired in a big right that fell just short and Calvillo countered with a beautifully timed takedown. Eye gave up her back again, but the round ended before Calvillo could do much with the position.

Round four

Eye came out pressuring hard in round four, but Calvillo  responded with a takedown. Eye gave up her back once again, and Calvillo started looking for a choke.

Calvillo  fired down shots from above but Eye proceeded to scramble up and out. Calvillo shot in again late in the round but Eye defended. Calvillo  planted a couple of hard rights before the round ended.

Round five

Calvillo scored with a nice right shortly into the final frame. Eye threatened with an uppercut but ate a jab for her efforts.

Eye continued with 1-2 combos, but Calvillo returned fire with punches of her own. Eye’s corner was calling for her to go for it, and while she stayed busy, she didn’t ratchet up the pressure much.

Calvillo came with a spinning back fist late in the round. Eye planted a hard right in the final minute but Calvillo took her down moments later.

Eye popped back to her feet not long after, but she was unable to land any big shots before the round ended. Fight should go to Calvillo and it was.
