Tina Fey

Today’s target of the radically liberal cancel culture mob is former “Saturday Night Live” star Tina Fey. A black leadership group is pressuring the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to rescind her Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Tina Fey hit the group’s radar when she recently pulled episodes of the hit sitcom ’30 Rock’ from Hulu.

Cancel Culture Targets Tina Fey As ‘Racist’

Fox News reported that the Project 21 Black Leadership Network is demanding the award be rescinded after Fey successfully called on NBCUniversal to remove certain episodes of her show “30 Rock” that featured characters in blackface from all streaming platforms.

This was not enough for the cancel culture mob, however, as they now want Fey to be “cancelled” permanently.

“We are not trying to cancel Tina Fey. Tina Fey cancelled herself when she asked Hulu to purge offensive episodes of ‘30 Rock,’ calling the fruits of her creativity ‘ugliness,’” Project 21 member Horace Cooper wrote. “We are simply alerting the Kennedy Center — which has acted in the past to protect itself and the integrity of the Twain Prize — to do so again in light of Tina Fey’s admission.”

Fey Apologizes

In her request to have the episodes removed, Fey also apologized for the racism that was included in the shows.

“As we strive to do the work and do better in regards to race in America, we believe that these episodes featuring actors in race-changing makeup are best taken out of circulation,” Fey said in a statement obtained by Deadline earlier this week. “I understand now that ‘intent; is not a free pass for white people to use these images… I apologize for [the] pain they have caused.”

This was not enough for Project 21, however, as the group also cited a Daily Beast article that listed other examples of Fey’s work that they say is “racist.”

“30 Rock’s two primary black characters are dueling racial tropes — the lazy, over-the-top Black man, as represented by the eccentric Tracy Jordan, and the educated and ‘well-spoken’ James Spurlock, known to his NBC family as ‘Toofer’ because he is both Black and went to Harvard. At times, the show uses this false dichotomy to comment on the way Black men are seen by white people and portrayed in white media. But often, these stereotypes are simply used for laughs,” Daily Beast entertainment reporter Laura Bradley wrote in the piece.

She went on to argue that Fey’s most recent show “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” also is full of racism.

Project 21 Doubles Down

“Quite frankly, Ms. Fey’s receipt of the prize in 2010 put her in a class of comedians to which she was, and often still is, inferior,” the Project 21 letter said. “It is our conclusion that the Kennedy Center has not received a proper return on its ill-advised investment in Ms. Fey over the past decade. Given this current controversy, it would be best for the Kennedy Center to rescind her award.”

The Kennedy Center has yet to respond to this letter.

This just goes to show that you can never try to cater to the cancel culture mob. If you give them just a little bit of rope, they will hang you with it. And, that’s exactly what’s happening to Fey right now.

Given how fast things move now in the world of cancel culture, Fey should not be surprised if her career is over and she is permanently “cancelled” by the time the sun goes down tonight.
