Manager: Conor McGregor to Monitor Upcoming UFC Cards, Could Return to Cage in July

It’s not looking like Conor McGregor will return to the Octagon next month, as recently reported might be the case. But, if the UFC’s upcoming events go off without a hitch, as the coronavirus pandemic continues, the star reportedly might fight in July.

McGregor’s manager says July is a possibility

Recently UFC President Dana White buzzed the MMA world when he reported that McGregor was interested in fighting on ‘fight island’, and that he might do so next month.

Well, more recently McGregor’s manager, Audie Attar, told ESPN that the former champ is not planning to fight in June after all. But, according to the report, McGregor is thinking about fighting in July, if all goes well with the UFC’s upcoming schedule.

“Conor is very curious to see whether the health and safety of the athletes and staff are ensured,” Attar said. “He wants to make sure everyone is taken care of properly.”

“While Conor’s desire would be to fight in front of another sold-out crowd,” Attar said, “he does understand what him fighting in an empty arena could do for people at home and would consider if he is comfortable with the way the UFC is holding these events from a health and safety standpoint.”

June seemed like a stretch

So, this info above shouldn’t come as a surprise. Since McGregor has been a vocal activist in the fight against the pandemic, it’s not surprising he wants to see how the UFC manages the issue in the coming weeks.

Further, a July bout would give McGregor more time to prepare for the fight, and try to put together a proper camp. The latter will require some of the restrictions being lifted in Ireland so McGregor can train and spar at gyms etc.

Attar also reportedly told ESPN that McGregor isn’t focused on a specific opponent at this time.
