Queen Elizabeth To Make Rare Television Broadcast As Coronavirus Escalates In UK

Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures, and Queen Elizabeth heard the call. The 93-year-old Queen is stepping up to do her part to fight coronavirus with a rare television broadcast that will air on Sunday. This televised address is incredibly unique because the Queen has only conducted a handful of on-camera broadcasts in the 68 years that she has been on the throne.

Queen Elizabeth To Give Coronavirus Address

Sunday will mark the first time that Queen Elizabeth has specifically addressed COVID-19 on camera.

Previously, the Queen has only done three Christmas addresses on camera plus one special broadcast. The other rare on-camera appearance by the Queen came five days after the death of Princess Diana back in 1997.

Buckingham Palace confirmed to Fox News, “It will go out at 8 p.m. Sunday evening.”

The Queen’s coronavirus address has already been recorded at Windsor Castle, Bloomberg News reports.

98 year-old husband Prince Philip and the Queen have been self-isolating at Windsor Castle since one of the Buckingham Palace aides tested positive for COVID-19.

To date, the royal family has only acknowledged the diagnoses of the royal aide and Prince Charles with COVID-19.

Prince Charles Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Queen Elizabeth was personally impacted by coronavirus when her 71-year-old son Prince Charles tested positive for the virus last month. Prince Charles is the Queen’s eldest son and heir to the royal throne.

This week, Charles revealed that his symptoms were only “mild” and that he has since made a full recovery.

“Having recently gone through the process of contracting this coronavirus, luckily with relatively mild symptoms, I now find myself on the other side of the illness but still in no less a state of social distance and general isolation,” he said.

“As we are all learning, this is a strange, frustrating and often distressing experience when the presence of family and friends is no longer possible and the normal structures of life are suddenly removed,” Charles continued.

“At such an unprecedented and anxious time in all our lives, my wife [Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall] and I are thinking particularly of all those who have lost their loved ones in such very difficult and abnormal circumstances, and of those having to endure sickness, isolation and loneliness.”

“As a nation, we are faced by a profoundly challenging situation, which we are only too aware threatens the livelihoods, businesses and welfare of millions of our fellow citizens,” the heir to the throne concluded.

“None of us can say when this will end, but end it will. Until it does, let us try and live with hope and with faith in ourselves in each other. Look forward to better times to come.”

The World Awaits Queen Elizabeth’s Guidance

This viral pandemic is unprecedented in our generation. In this time of great uncertainty and fear, it’s critical that our world leaders share their wisdom and strength.

Queen Elizabeth has guided her citizens through numerous crises over the years with wisdom and grace.

It’s no doubt that we all will benefit from hearing the Queen’s message this Sunday.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
