Alistair Overeem

It’s still not clear when and where the UFC will begin hosting cards again. But, it certainly looks like Alistair Overeem has a fight lined up as he’s arrived back in the United States for a training camp.

Overeem teases upcoming fight

As you surely know, recently the April 18th, UFC 249 card was canceled, after the promotion had reworked the event and had secured the Tachi Palace Resort and Casino for a venue. Various officials in California called on the UFC to hold the card, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ultimately, ESPN, the UFC’s broadcasting partner, asked the promotion to postpone the event. In a follow-up statement, the UFC said UFC 249 and “subsequent bouts” were going to be postponed for now.

Dana White has repeatedly said that the UFC is ready to resume operations, however, and recently Overeem shared out the images and comments below.

An interesting development

Overeem was scheduled to fight Walt Harris on April 11th at UFC Portland, before that event was canceled. So, it could be that the UFC is looking at moving that match-up to an upcoming card.

You would think that Overeem would not have headed back from Amsterdam to resume training, if he didn’t believe there’s a good chance of a fight going through. That said, as it stands right now with the pandemic, it’s hard to imagine any card taking place in the U.S. for a while yet.

The decorated heavyweight is coming off a late, stoppage loss to Jairzinho Rozenstruik in December. Prior to that the “Reem” had won back-to-back bouts.
