UFC Norfolk: Felicia Spencer Outlines Case For Title Fight With Amanda Nunes

One of the big storylines emerging from UFC Norfolk, is that featherweight contenders Megan Anderson and Felicia Spencer both scored impressive, stoppage wins. So, could one of them be next for the champ, Amanda Nunes? And if so, which one? Well, according to Spencer, she’s confident she’s done her part for a shot at Nunes’ belt.

Spencer believes she’s “earned” a title shot

Spencer took on Zarah Fairn at the event, and after taking some punches, she began working her clinch and takedown game. Eventually, Spencer swept Fairn to the floor, and from there, her top game ruled the day. Fairn attempted to fight her way out, but after Spencer fired in some nasty elbows and punches from above, the bout was called.

Well, due to the victory, Spencer’s record, and to be fair, because the UFC’s female 145 division has no rankings, the Canadian is very likely, knocking on the title shot door. The aforementioned Anderson, however, is also in the mix, as she scored a KO win over Norma Dumont on Saturday.

So, does Spencer think she should be next for Nunes? Over Anderson? While talking to the media afterward, she said the following (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I do have a win over Megan,” Spencer said. “We both got first-round finishes tonight, so it was an interesting night for that. I think it turned out the way a lot of people expected and I could definitely see my self getting that shot and I think I earned it.”

‘Its kind of exciting the idea to potentially fight two legends with in a year, that would be awesome,” Spencer explained. “It be an honor to fight with in a year of being in the UFC be able to fight (Cris) Cyborg and Amanda Nunes. So that would be awesome, I’m really excited.”

Could Spencer get the tap for a title shot? Instead of Anderson? It’s certainly possible. As she noted, she did quickly submit Anderson in May, 2019.

But, Spencer is also one fight removed from a loss to “Cyborg”, who was quickly taken out by Nunes. That could mean the UFC will look at Anderson, if they feel there might be more interest in seeing her fight for the belt right now. The charismatic, Australian fighter has won two in a row.

Nunes is open to fighting either

If you’re wondering what Nunes thinks, following UFC Norfolk, the champ-champ said she liked both women’s wins, and that she’s open to fighting either. There’s been speculation that the UFC is hoping to have Nunes fight at UFC 250, May 9th. That card is taking place in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Nunes is coming off a successful defense of the bantamweight title, via a decision win over Germaine de Randamie in December.
