UFC Brasilia: Nikita Krylov Hands Johnny Walker Second Straight Defeat

Johnny Walker was hoping to get back on track today at UFC Brasilia, after being handed his first UFC defeat by Corey Anderson in November. But, Nikita Krylov turned to his takedowns and grappling to hand the dynamic light-heavyweight his second straight loss.

Round one

Walker came out firing kicks and then missed with a flying knee. Krylov clinched up and started hunting for a takedown. Walker banged in some hard elbows from above but Krylov eventually took Walker down. Krylov worked from the top with Walker’s back against the cage. Walker got back to his feet and fired a huge elbow that missed. Krylov cracked Walker with a hard right and the latter returned fire with a spinning back fist. In the last minute, Krylov  took Walker to the floor once again.

Round two

Krylov came out with forward pressure, planted a left and took Walker down. The latter attempted a sweep but Krylov maintained the top position and started working elbows. Walker attempted throwing up a triangle choke but he couldn’t secure it. Krylov continued to work from the top in half guard but Walker managed to score a sweep at around the four minute mark. Krylov tried hunting for a heel hook and then a knee bar but Walker pounded in punches from above.

Round three

Krylov appeared to be the fresher fighter to begin round three and he took Walker down yet again. The latter reversed, however, and took the top position. Krylov started scrambling and proceeded to regain the top position. Krylov fired in some blows from the top while working in Walker’s full guard. The latter responded with elbows from below. Walker attempted to roll out from the bottom but Krylov pounded in some hard elbows and remained on top.

Not surprisingly, Krylov was awarded the decision win.
