UFC 248: Charles Oliveira Continues to Pad Submission Record

Charles Oliveira took another big step to title contention in the UFC’s lightweight ranks today at UFC Brasilia, by submitting Kevin Lee in the card’s headliner.

Round one

Oliveira came out firing kicks and sticking his jab. Moments later he grazed Lee with a leaping kick. Lee scored with a right and not long after, Oliveira changed levels and took the fight down. Oliveira started hunting for a leg lock and Lee almost gave up his back. Lee took the top position but Oliveira kept working for heel hooks. Lee defended and the action slowed. Oliveira began looking for a triangle-choke which kept Lee on the defensive further. Lee scored with some right hands and elbow rom the top position before the round ended.

Round two

Oliveira fired a spinning back fist and a spinning kick to begin round two. Lee planted a hard right hand moments later. Oliveira scored a big right of his own. Oliveira continued to move forward and he tagged Lee with punches. Oliveira mixed in a front kick that grazed Lee. A couple of minutes in, Lee took Oliveira down and right away, “Do Bronx” had Lee defending submission attempts. Lee continued to work from the top, but he wasn’t able to offer much in the way of strikes. Oliveira started looking for another heel hook and Lee responded with some shots from above.

Round three

Oliveira missed with a leaping kick seconds into the third frame. Lee responded with big shots of his own, but as he changed levels, Oliveira wrapped up a guillotine choke. Lee proceeded to tap, but after the fight was stopped, he protested that he hadn’t (maybe he temporarily went out). Another finish for “do Bronx”.

OIiveira has now won seven straight and he has recorded a record, 14 submissions in the Octagon.
