“The Korean Zombie” “Never Felt so Much Anger”, After Learning of UFC 248 Slapping Incident

It remains to be seen if Chan Sung Jung and Brian Ortega are rebooked to fight in the coming months. But, if that happens, it looks like the lead-up to the contest is going to be really, really interesting.

Jung was “livid” after finding out about slapping incident

When Jung and Ortega were initially booked to fight last December, the two didn’t have much of a rivalry, if any. But, if you follow both fighters, you know that since then, tensions have ratcheted way up.

After Ortega was forced out of the bout due to a knee injury, “The Korean Zombie” made some comments about the featherweight ducking him. But, along the way, Ortega accused Jung’s friend and translator, Jay Park, of deliberately misinterpreting what “TKZ” said (as a means to drum up drama). That culminated in Ortega allegedly slapping Park at UFC 248 earlier this month.

Ortega has since apologized for the incident, but during a recent video that went up on Jung’s YouTube channel, “The Korean Zombie” reported this (quotes via MMA Mania).

”With everything that was going on, I thought that the UFC would seat us farther apart from one another,” Jung said. “But they sat us pretty close and it was impossible for him to have not seen me. My wife made eye contact with Ortega a few times and I was told that he kept looking in my direction as well.”

”…I still remember how I felt when I found out,” he said. “I have never felt so much anger in my body. I was livid. I remember I started looking around for Ortega despite the security guards trying to stop me. I was furious that I couldn’t do anything, but apparently Ortega was immediately kicked out of the stadium by the security guards after what he did.”

”After the fight, me, my wife, Jay Park, and a few other members of our party met with UFC officials to discuss our options,” he continued. “A professional fighter hitting a civilian? While he was sitting minding his own business? It wasn’t even a man to man fight. Being the stubborn person I am, I had to call the police. This was assault, not part of a scripted show. The police showed up, and they began writing out a police report of what had happened until UFC officials intervened.”

Will Jung – Ortega get rebooked?

Jung has made it clear he wants to fight Ortega, but he’s also said he would prefer to fight for the featherweight title next (not surprisingly). Since the expectation is that the new champ, Alexander Volkanovski will be booked for an immediate rematch with Max Holloway, however,  one would think the UFC will roll with Jung vs. Ortega.
