Country music legend Dolly Parton took to social media on Friday afternoon to offer a powerful message of faith and hope to her fans in a time of great uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The 74-year-old “Jolene” singer posted a video to her social media pages in which she said that she believes coronavirus is a lesson from God.
“Well hello, it’s Dolly, climbing the stairway to heaven ’cause this virus is scaring the H-E-L-L out of us,” Dolly sang. “I’m not making light of the situation. Well, maybe I am, ’cause it’s the light that I believe is going to dissolve the situation.”
“I think God is in this, I really do,” she added. “I think he’s trying to hold us up to the light so we can see ourselves and see each other through the eyes of love.”
“And I hope we learn that lesson,” Parton concluded. “I think that when this passes we’re gonna all be better people. So I know that I have a positive attitude about it as negative as it seems to be right now. So just keep the faith, don’t be too scared, it’s gonna be alright. God loves us.”
Dolly’s video immediately went viral, with fans saying that it was exactly what they needed to hear right now.
“Love you Dolly! Thank you for spreading your light into the world,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “Honey!! We need you! Keep speaking to us!! I can feel my anxiety ease hearing you talk!”
“You are the queen of positivity. THE WORLD NEEDS YOU,” a third fan wrote. “Please be safe Dolly, i will literally fist fight this virus if anything happens to you.”
At the very beginning of this crisis, Dolly Parton lost her longtime friend and collaborator Kenny Rogers. The country icon continues to grieve her friend who passed away at the age of 81, exactly one week before Dolly posted her latest video.
“And I know that we all know Kenny is in a better place than we are today but I’m for sure he’s going to be talking to God sometime today, if ain’t already, and he’s going to be asking him to spread some light on this darkness going on here. But I loved Kenny with all my heart,” Parton said in a video the day after his death.
“My heart’s broken. A big ol’ chunk of it has gone with him today and I think that I can speak for all his family, his friends and fans, when I say that I will always love him.””
