For now, Jon Jones is completely focused on the task at hand.

However, that doesn’t mean the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion isn’t looking towards his future.

Jones is set to defend his belt against Dominick Reyes this Saturday night at UFC 247. After that, a move to heavyweight could be in his future.

“It’s definitely a possibility,” Jones told MMA Fighting recently. “One thing I know for sure, going up to heavyweight would inspire me on a different level just because there would be so many elements that I’m unfamiliar with.

“Gaining weight. Staying lean and strong. Mainly the weight gaining and understanding how I’m going to perform and how I’m going to move at the higher weight class.”

The 32-year-old Jones has reeled off three consecutive victories since battling Daniel Cormier to what would be declared a no-contest after a failed drug test. Jones had won that bout via knockout and is 24-1 overall.

He has previously teased such a move to heavyweight over the years. Now, with the division almost completely cleared out, it could be the perform storm.

Miocic is still expected to defend his title against Cormier later this year. Should he be successful, a match with “Bones” to close out 2020 would be a mega-fight.
