Corey Anderson Weighs-in on Jon Jones’ Controversial Win, Happy he Can be The One to “Dethrone” Champ

After watching Jon Jones narrowly get by Dominick Reyes at UFC 247, it sounds like Corey Anderson’s more confident than ever in his abilities to end “Bones'” reign as the 205 champ.

Anderson comments on Jones’ controversial win over Reyes

Unless you’ve been abstaining from electricity these last few days, you know that Jones’ win over Reyes this past weekend, is being scrutinized, heavily. Jones was awarded the unanimous decision win, but it seems like a lot of people scored the fight for Reyes.

Well, the man Jones chose to not fight next, the aforementioned Anderson, recently spoke with TMZ Sports. Here’s some of what Anderson had to say about the fight and his chances against Jones (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I knew he was beatable,” Anderson said “I was the one that always said, ‘I know I can beat Jon, I know ways to beat him.’ I see the holes, I see what you got to do to beat him, and Dom went out there and did pretty much a lot of it. He went out there and did another blueprint of things that I had already seen, but I see so much more.

“I got more in my tank, and I got more in my style in the way I fight that Dom doesn’t that I think is going to be a problem for him. But at the end, I’m happy that Jon got the win because I get to be the one to dethrone him.”

“When I was watching, I was like, ‘Man, I could lose that opportunity to be the one to beat Jon,’” he explained. “It could have gone either way, especially when he got caught with a couple of shots and looked like he might have been hurt. Dom is usually known for pouring it on, but he (was) just so tired, he couldn’t do it.”

Prior to UFC 247, some people argued that Anderson would be a tougher test for Jones, on account of his wrestling. One of the things that makes Jones great is that in many bouts, he’s been able to mix in his takedowns and top game. So, since Anderson is an All-American wrestler, some wondered whether that would be the case. Further, and as demonstrated in his win over Johnny Walker, Anderson has some pop in his hands.

But, Reyes was able to squash multiple takedown attempts from Jones (7 of 9), and most would likely agree he’s a more dangerous striker than Anderson.

Anderson has to get by Jan Blachowicz

Before Anderson can face Jones, however, he’s going to need to beat Jan Blachowicz, who he’ll fight this Saturday at UFC Rio Rancho. If Anderson can score an emphatic victory, you never know; all the talk about Jones – Reyes 2 could die down, somewhat.
