KC Chiefs Owner Clark Hunt Encourages A Christian Culture Of Faith On The Team

Clark Hunt, the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, publicly thanked God on national television after his team won the Super Bowl on Sunday. This faith-rooted owner is proud to be a Christian and he encourages his employees to develop their spiritual faith as well. He has brought a culture of faith to the Kansas City Chiefs and it has helped propel his team to bring the Lombardi trophy home.

The Dallas based billionaire does not shy away from his faith. It is the focal point of who he is. He became a Christian at age 10. It has enriched his life and he wants others to experience the same.

Clark Hunt Encourages Spiritual Development

“We want our employees to develop spiritually,” Hunt said at a Men’s Luncheon in East Texas. “In the National Football League, Christ is really glorified. My identity is my faith in Christ.”

Hunt wants to help the fans boost their faith as well. Since many Chiefs fans would normally miss church to attend Sunday games, they have brought service to the stadium.

From Sports Spectrum:

Since 2014, through a partnership with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, local churches and Hunt’s direct support, the Chiefs have offered their fans a nondenominational pregame chapel service, the first such recurring onsite faith event in the NFL. Church of the Resurrection was the 2019 host of the event, which takes place every week there is a noon home game. Because fans at Arrowhead Stadium may miss their normal Sunday worship opportunities by attending Chiefs games, a service is held in a pavilion at the stadium and features a message and worship starting at 10 a.m.

Hunt Praises God On TV

After winning the Super Bowl, Hunt took the opportunity to praise God on national television as you can see in the tweeted video below.

That faith-based culture is the reason punter Dustin Colquitt has stuck with the Chiefs for 15 years. He says the Christian environment with the team starts with Hunt.

“He sets the precedent, obviously,” Colquitt reported to Sports Spectrum. “He’s the leader here and he’s always been very receptive to having chaplains right in the mix of things. We do a prayer circle like I’m sure most NFL teams, [and teams] all around the world, do. But we have a special prayer circle. It’s fun getting guys together and just being there together, being silent and somebody praying over guys before we go out on the football field. It’s a special place to be.”

“There’s definitely a lot of Christians in the organization, and when it starts at the top, that’s pretty powerful, with the owner, and he kind of sets it from there,” Offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski said. “But there are definitely players following Jesus on the team too and it’s been fun to get to know some of those guys, and try to share with them and encourage them.”

Chiefs Hold Bible Study

Christians on the team get together on Monday nights for Bible study led by the team’s chaplain Marcellus Casey. Having an owner who celebrates his faith has encouraged others to do the same. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been compared to Tim Tebow by how he is a humble Christian who gives public glory to God.

Hunt is a very generous Christian. He recognizes going to the Super Bowl is a team effort that is propelled by everyone working for the Chiefs organization. He shared his blessings by paying for every employee, including janitors, and their families to attend the Super Bowl in Miami. This man is the leader many of us dream about calling our boss.
