It doesn’t sound like Jorge Masvidal has anything against Georges St-Pierre personally. But, “Gamebred” will try to “break” the face of the legend, if they ever throw hands in the Octagon.
In recent months, there’s been extensive talk about Masvidal fighting Conor McGregor, especially since he defeated Nate Diaz in November. Masvidal has repeatedly said that while he wants to fight for the UFC’s welterweight title at some juncture, his main priority right now is too make as much money as possible. As a result, Masvidal is looking for big money bout next, and he’s not certain a fight with Kamaru Usman is his top choice in that respect.
Well, there hasn’t been much talk about Masvidal possibly facing St-Pierre. But, in a recent interview he did with Submission Radio, Masvidal was asked about fighting the former welterweight and middleweight champ. Here’s some of what Masvidal had to say (quotes via MMA Fighting):
“Well, they’ve said this about me, that I resurrect fighters and then I retire them again. So, I wouldn’t mind if GSP jumped on that campaign,” Masvidal said. “In all honestly, as a competitor, I want to f*cking break his face. I want to go out there and give him everything I got. But I respect the time what he’s done.
“He took I don’t know how many years off, came back, beat Bisping for the legitimate middleweight title. Dude’s a stud. He’s a f*cking animal, bro. I would put everything into my being, into my soul, to end this individual, because he’s that good.”
“He’s the type of fighter, this sh*t would require a nice training camp, isolation away from the world and just focus on the task, just day in and day out, cause he’s a hell of competitor, and I’m not taking a back seat to nobody in this division. So, I would love it,” Masvidal said.
If you follow Masvidal, then the comments above shouldn’t come as a surprise. Further, there’s no question that he would need to be at his absolute best to defeat the legendary, GSP.
While it’s an interesting match-up to consider, the chances of Masvidal and St-Pierre fighting at this juncture, however, seem slim to none. GSP is retired, and when he’s talked about the possibility of returning to the UFC in more recent months, it’s been tied to discussions about fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov.
St-Pierre has said that if he fights again, it needs to be a bout that could add to his legacy, and that facing the undefeated Nurmagomedov fits that criteria.
