Korean Zombie

“The Korean Zombie” lived up to his nickname at UFC Fight Night 165 in South Korea.

Chan Sung Jung earned one of the biggest wins of his career to date, becoming just the second fighter to stop Frankie Edgar. The bout served as the main event Saturday on ESPN+ from Busan, South Korea.

Minutes into the opening round, Jung went on the attack, peppering the former UFC lightweight champion with several heavy shots. He continued to unload on Edgar, forcing the referee to step in.

Edgar suffered his first knockout loss last year to Brian Ortega, and is now just 1-3 over his last four. He replaced Ortega in the bout after initially stating plans to drop down to bantamweight.

With the victory, Jung positioned himself nicely in the featherweight division. He has now finished both Edgar and Renato Moicano since a tough loss to Yair Rodriguez in the final second of their five-round bout in 2018.

Korean Zombie Enjoys His Moment

Volkan Oezdemir picked up a split decision in the co-main event, holding off Aleksandar Rakic for the win. The former title contender has won each of his last two since a three-fight skid.

Key Win For Volkan Oezdemir

Charles Jourdain scored a big upset when he finished Doo Ho Choi in the second round. The two earned “Fight of the Night” honors for their performance.

Da Un Jung knocked out Mike Rodriguez in just 64 seconds, with Jun Yong Park and Kyung Ho Kang picking up decision.

On the prelims, which aired live on ESPN, Ciryl Gane, Seung Woo Choi, Omar Antonio Morales, Alexandre Pantoja, Raoni Barcelos, Amanda Lemos and Heili Alateng were all winners.

Jung and Pantoja claimed “Performance of the Night” bonuses.

This marked the first time the UFC has held an event in Busan and just the second appearance in South Korea. The first came back in 2015 with Benson Henderson earning a split decision over Jorge Masvidal.
