UFC 246: Donald Cerrone Takes Dig at Media Over Reports he Was Headed to Roufusport

Donald Cerrone is preparing to battle Conor McGregor on January 18th, and contrary to recent reports, “Cowboy” is not heading east to train with the famed Roufusport gym.

Cerrone accuses media of running with “click bait”

A couple of weeks ago posts started making the rounds that Cerrone was planning to go to Milwaukee to train at Roufusport. Since Cerrone has been training out of New Mexico and his BMF Ranch for a while, the stories likely raised eyebrows. Notable fighters like Anthony Pettis, Sergio Pettis, Tyron Woodley, and Paul Felder among many others, have all trained out of the gym.

The story was based on comments that Duke Roufus himself, reportedly made, whereby he said Cerrone was going to be at the gym following Christmas.

Well, while talking to MMA Junkie recently, Cerrone had this to say about those reports:

“Those reports are not accurate,” Cerrone said. “I’m not sure where that came. I heard it also. I’m like, ‘Oh, I guess I’m going to Duke Roufus’, huh?’ It’s just another clickbait from you guys. I love you media mother(expletives). Anything you guys can grasp your (expletive) hands on you’ll do it.”

Cerrone was then apparently informed that the reports stemmed from comments Roufus had reportedly made. “Cowboy” then said this:

“I’m the (expletive) horse,” Cerrone said. “I say I’m going nowhere. Same old song and dance (for this training camp), baby.”

One could argue that since Cerrone is coming off back-to-back losses that maybe switching things up in advance of UFC 246, could be a smart move. In his last outing, against Justin Gaethje in September, he was taken out in the first round.

That said, in Cerrone, we’re talking about the man who has the most wins in UFC history. So clearly he’s doing something right. Further, it could also be the case that he’s brought in new sparring partners or coaches to prepare for McGregor as well.
