Petr Yan put away Urijah Faber in convincing fashion at UFC 245, and it looks like that’s put him on Cody Garbrandt’s radar, front-and-center.

Yan and Garbrandt need to be separated backstage

Yan bested Faber in many of the striking exchanges they had, and in round three, he finished the bloodied and game star with a head kick. Since then, the rising, Russian fighter’s manager Sayat Abdrakhmanov, posted the video below.

Could Yan and Garbrandt fight anytime soon?

Obviously there’s an interesting storyline here, on account of Garbrandt’s friendship with Yan. But, first things first: Garbrandt needs to end his three-fight losing streak and beat Raphael Assuncao, as the two are expected to fight on March 28th. Even then, it would be pretty surprising if Yan agreed to fight “No Love”. With Saturday’s win, Yan is knocking on the title shot door, as he’s won all six of his UFC bouts to date and is currently ranked #4.

So, if Yan isn’t booked for a title shot, he’ll likely be tapped for a title shot eliminator with someone ranked in the top five.
