Colby Covington may receive a congratulatory call from President Donald Trump, but he won’t receive a call congratulating him on winning the UFC welterweight title, as Kamaru Usman stopped “Chaos” tonight at UFC 245.

Round one

Usman just missed with a headkick early into the fight. Covington mixed in several kicks in the opening minute. Usman stuck a nice right and then another one moments later. Covington, however, stayed busy and landed some strikes of his own. Covington tagged Usman with a hard punch and the champ looked to clinch up. The steady stream of strikes continued. Usman planted a hard right to Covington’s body that appeared to hurt “Chaos”. Covington came with several nice strikes before the round ended.

Round two

Both fighters continued to fire a steady stream of strikes to begin round two. Usman planted a nice counter left. Covington responded by sticking a couple of hard punches. Both men continued to fire a steady stream of jabs and the pace of striking continued. Usman scored with a couple of rights that pushed  Covington back late in the round.

Round three

Usman fired a front kick to the body to begin the frame. The volume decreased in the opening 90 seconds, but Usman scored with a nice right. Usman dug to the body again with a right hand. Usman continued to throw front kicks to the body of Covington. Usman scored with another right to the body of Covington, but in the ensuing exchange, Usman took an eye poke. Before the round end, Usman planted a right hand that Colby apparently thought was an eye poke. Replay shows that Usman landed a hard, hard right hand.

Round four

Usman came out firing his jab and a cut opened up above Covington’s left eye. Commentating team believes Covington’s jaw may be broken. Covington continued to press forward, however, and he landed several strikes. Covington appeared to stagger Usman with a hard left but the champ returned fire. Close fight.

Round five

Usman threatened with a head kick to begin round five. Covington countered not long after with a hard left. Usman pressed forward but the volume of both men declined. Usman just missed with a big left a couple of minutes in and he pushed Covington back with a big right. Usman floored Covington with a right hand, and then after following up with more shots, the fight was called. What a win for Usman.
