Alberto El Patron Vs. Tito Ortiz Results

After a lengthy absence from MMA, Alberto El Patron returned last night for Combate Americas. The contest did not go past the first round as Patron was submitted by MMA legend Tito Ortiz. 

The fight was very one-sided with Ortiz putting the former WWE Champion on the ground and having his way. At 3:10 of the first round, Patron had no choice but to tap via a rear-naked choke.

Patron is now 9-6 in MMA with his last fight taking place in February 2010. His most memorable appearances were for Deep and the now defunct PRIDE.

As for Ortiz, he is now riding three consecutive wins. Since leaving the UFC in 2012, he has won five of his last six. The lone defeat was an attempt to become the Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion.

Before the fight, there was plenty of bad blood between the two. At the weigh-ins, Ortiz pushed Patron and that nearly led to a brawl. Although, there is no telling how much of that was scripted.

The fight did get the attention of one big name as President Donald Trump congratulated Ortiz on Twitter. Ortiz has shown support for Trump and wore a “Trump 2020” logo on his shorts.

We will have to see if Patron gives MMA another shot as he was taking on someone with a much better background in the sport.

AEW’s Next Pay Per View Rumored For February

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is planning another pay per view in the first quarter of 2020. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the promotion is looking at February to run the event.

They want to continue with the idea of running the show on Saturdays as they see less competition compared to Sundays. But, boxing and MMA typically run on those nights; so, that is another factor AEW must take into account.

UFC’s Jon Jones is set to defend his title on February 8 and boxing’s Tyson Fury has a fight lined-up for February 22. The UFC also has an event on February 15, but it is not a pay per view. 

That leaves two possible dates in February for AEW. They can go with February 1 or 29. As of now, there is no word on what venue the card would take place or a possible name.

AEW currently plans to run four pay per views per year. They have already featured Double or Nothing, All Out and Full Gear. Over the past year, AEW also ran Fyter Fest and Fight for the Fallen as free events.

The report continued that AEW officials are trying to keep the date a secret, so WWE does not try to run a special event the same evening.
