Shredded Jose Aldo Reports There’s “No Doubt” He’s Headed to 135, Calls Henry Cejudo an “Actor”

When it was first reported that Jose Aldo was targeting a drop to 135, plenty of people questioned whether the legendary fighter would be able to do so. But, based off comments the legend has recently made, and a picture of a shredded Aldo, it seems clear that’s still his plan.

News of Aldo’s intention to drop down

Following Aldo’s decision loss to Alexander Volkanovski in May, more than a few eyebrows were raised, when it was reported Aldo was targeting a drop to 135. After all, for years there was talk about Aldo moving up from 145 to lightweight. Further, Aldo’s cut to 145 never appeared to be easy, and that’s why Dana White shot down the possibility of the star making the drop.

Aldo’s recent comments

Well, recently Aldo spoke with MMA Fighting, and the story includes a picture of the 33-year-old looking ridiculously shredded. In the article, Aldo is quoted saying the following:

“I’m on a diet for a month and my weight is dropping just fine,” said Aldo, who also reported that he currently weighs around 150 pounds. “I’m training as hard as I’ve ever trained in my life, so I wouldn’t suffer to make featherweight now. My weight is going down well.”

“No doubt I’m fighting at 135 next, I’m just waiting for (Henry) Cejudo to decide if he’s going to fight or not,” he continued, aiming at the two-division champion. “If it’s not against him, I have no problem (fighting) anyone else. I’m asking ‘Dede’ (Pederneiras) every day, texting and terrorizing Dana (White). This f***** should at least come out of the bushes, you either fight or you don’t. All he does is talk that he wants to fight, this internet talk, but that’s easy. I wanna see you sign the contract to show you’re a real man and fight me or anyone else.

“Anyone. I see no problems. I’ve never picked fights,” Aldo said. “It don’t think Cejudo will fight now, he’s just an actor in the media now, all he does is talk, send messages…”

So, we’ll see what happens here. Since Aldo is coming off a loss and has lost three of his last five fights, it would be kind of surprising if a title fight with Cejudo materialized. White has said he wants Cejudo to defend the flyweight title first against Joseph Benavidez. But, even if Cejudo does get tapped to defend the 135 belt, there’s other top contenders already in line for a title shot.

That said, due to what Aldo’s accomplished in his storied career, there’s no doubt his line to a title shot at 135 will be shorter than most.
