Following the release of a video several weeks ago, which showed Conor McGregor sucker punching an elderly man in a Dublin pub, it’s finally being reported the Irish star has indeed, been charged with assault.
In August, the MMA world was turned upside down, after a video was released which captured McGregor striking a man. The incident reportedly occurred after the man turned a shot of McGregor’s whiskey, and words were exchanged. The former UFC champ apologized for his actions, but until now, it wasn’t known for sure whether the star would face charges.
The Independant.ie is reporting today that McGregor has been served a summons by authorities to appear in court on October 11th. The report states McGregor “faces a single assault charge under Section Two of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act over the incident on April 6 last at the Marble Arch pub in Drimnagh” and that “It carries a maximum prison term of six months upon summary conviction, a fine of €1,500, or both.”
McGregor hasn’t fought since last October, when he was submitted by lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. There has been speculation that the fighter would return to the Octagon in early 2020, but today’s news could impact that timeline.
