ONE: Century’s Angela Lee Has ‘Fixed My Mistakes’

ONE female atomweight champion Angela Lee experienced nothing but victories through her first nine professional fights.

Now, as she prepares for ONE: CENTURY and a title defense vs. ONE strawweight champion Xiong Jing Nan, Lee is looking to snap a two-fight losing skid.

Lee and Xiong headline the first part of the mega-event on October 13 from Tokyo, Japan. The card featuring Lee vs. Xiong, along with her brother, Christian Lee, competing in the ONE Lightweight Grand Prix, will air live on TNT at 11 p.m. ET.

“I’ve had time to reflect on my past two fights, and I don’t want them to be in vain,” Lee said. “I feel that I have learned so much since then, and the losses have only motivated me to become a better martial artist. My team and I have been working harder than ever in all areas. My Dad, my brother, and my husband have all been working with me day and night on our strategy, and I’ve been training with fighters of all different styles: wrestling, boxing, jiu-jitsu, MMA to be fully prepared.”

Lee appeared well on her way to becoming a two-division ONE champion earlier this year, controlling Xiong with her title on the line. After securing a seemingly-perfect submission in the fourth round, Lee was unable to get the tap and was finished in the fifth.

She was also topped by Michelle Nicolini at strawweight, which leaves her record as an atomweight at a perfect 9-0.

“I do feel that fighting at atomweight will be in my favor,” Lee said. “I’ve been here many times before. This is where I am the champion and where I am undefeated. Xiong has never been down to atomweight, and I know, if it’s difficult for me, it will be difficult for her. I am ready. My advantages are that in our previous fight, I was winning every round up until the fifth. I know where I need to take this fight to win it. I’ve fixed my mistakes, and I know I have what it takes to defend my title.”
