Donald Cerrone

It remains to be seen who and when Conor McGregor will fight next, but Donald Cerrone is doing his best to make sure it’s him.

McGregor’s recent claims he’s fighting January 14th

During a recent tour for a sponsor, McGregor turned heads throughout the game by claiming he’s going to fight on January 18th. The controversial star declined to name an opponent, but then came word Cerrone was the front-runner.

Cerrone pushes McGregor to sign the contract

More recently, Cerrone spoke with TMZ Sports, and while doing so, he made it clear he wants to fight McGregor. Case in point, here’s some of what “Cowboy” had to say (quotes via ESPN):

“I think it’s gonna happen this time, I really do,” Cerrone said. “Conor is really serious about making a comeback. He’s doing whatever he wants to do.”

“Sign the damn deal, man,” Cerrone said. “Let’s get this done.”

So, we’ll see what happens. Cerrone also noted in the interview that he moves the needle quite a bit these days as well, and that he believes a bout with McGregor would be massive. There’s no arguing there.

It is somewhat surprising, however, that from a meritocratic perspective Justin Gaethje isn’t the front-runner here. After all, he’s coming off a first round, stoppage win over Cerrone.
